5 Signs You Have Been Single for too Long

Relationships aren’t for everyone and there is really nothing wrong with being single. There are a lot of people who choose to be single and are perfectly fine with living their lives on their own and it certainly has its perks: No sharing meals, watching whatever you want on TV and the whole bed to yourself.

However, after months or years of being alone, you might realize that you got a book for your birthday titled Microwave Recipes for One (again!) or that the waiter at your favorite restaurant always leads you to the single-occupancy table. Yeah, these are signs that you might have been single just a bit too long.

If the following signs seem familiar, it’s probably time for you to reevaluate and maybe start looking for something or someone new in your life.

1. You Get a Cat

You come home to an empty flat every evening. At first you don’t mind but after some time passes you think it would be nice to come home to a loyal pet that greets you as soon as you walk in the door, doesn’t judge you, or one that lies next to you and warms you on a cold winter night. It’s perfectly fine to get a cat, but don’t just do it because you feel lonely. A cat should never be the replacement for affection. That is something you should get from a real living person.

2. You Become Really Lazy

You think that you don’t have to go to the gym because you don’t have to impress anyone. You can’t motivate yourself to do anything other than playing video games. Your perfect Friday night means changing right into your pajamas, watching a movie and going to bed at 10pm. But the thing is, you shouldn’t let yourself down. After all, keeping fit can only do yourself good and catching up with friends is also really important. Go out and have fun, for what it’s worth you might even meet someone special.

3. You Develop Bad Eating Habits

It gets difficult to always cook for one person; either you have to eat the same thing for three days or you have to throw out half of your meal. So junk food becomes your new lover. It’s so easy to just put a frozen pizza in the oven, buy fast food or make instant soup in a mug. If your kitchen is filled with stuff that can be cooked in less than 10 minutes, you’ve probably been single for too long.

4. You Lose Your Confidence

After being alone for a long time, you’ll probably start to think that there must be something wrong with you. You’ll think that you’re not attractive or interesting or funny enough. But that’s really not the case and, besides, how will anyone find you attractive if you’re not getting out there and meeting them?

5. You Want Your Ex Back

You have been thinking a lot about your exes lately and you start googling your old flames. You have to realize that your desperation has reached a new low point when your ex suddenly becomes attractive again. Always remember that you two had a good reason to split up. What about meeting new people instead of thinking about the past? Go out and be social! At the gym, at a café or online dating!
